The
Norman Laud Community Short Break
Service provides a family support service offering quality care for
children and young people with special needs in the Birmingham and West
Midlands areas.
This service aims to help and support parents and carers in their own
homes to enable the families to recharge their batteries, spend time
with other family members and enjoy a social life.
The
Service is
available daytime,
evenings, weekends, nights, and bank holidays - excluding Christmas
Day, Boxing Day, New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day
The
service is
usually agreed in advance but it may also be possible to book a
‘same day’ service
There is a
duty manager on call at all times
and during office hours the service manager is available.
The
service provided is based on a ‘needs
led’ approach and is tailored to meet the
individual’s needs
Great
emphasis is placed on providing a service
that promotes each child’s spiritual, moral, social and
cultural
development
The
service aims to provide continuity of care
whenever possible, placing staff with families they have supported on
previous occasions
What Kind of
Services Can Be Provided
A care plan will be devised for each child or young person and can
include help with things such as:
Bathing
and toileting
Dressing
and undressing
Mobility
Feeding
Administering
medicine
Ensuring
and promoting health and welfare
Physical
and emotional needs
Leisure
needs
Before
school or after school service
It
can also
include
more specialist care
delivered by appropriately trained and qualified staff who can help
with:
Artificial
feeding
Invasive
care procedures
Administration
of controlled drugs
Diabetes
and epilepsy management
